So, this super exciting event took place. For the first time, I went to an organized race.
Thank you Coptermonkey.chand Backstreetpilots.ch for this amazing experience! Thank you Highflyer for taking me with you =)!
Everyone was super nice, people were happy and we had a lot of stuff to exchange. Many ideas came out of this event and I have experienced a whole new facet of this new sport.
I apologize in advance for the wall of text! =)
For the first time, I have felt the adrenaline rush on the countdown. I had to add some deadband in form of Betaflight configuration and beer to remove all the false jitter.
4 Pilots each round, 3 categories – Beginner 12 Pilots, Advanced 12 Pilots and Experts 8 Pilots. I myself registered on the Advanced category. Man I cannot recommend this enough to people. Get out and fly with other people. It is a whole different level of fun! Seeing another person passing by looks really amazing. The rush of winning or the rush of failing because of a silly mistake – everything is so much fun! Of course there is some downtime as only 4 Pilots at a time can race – this is where you network! Connect to other people, talk about your specs, talk on what LiPo you prefer, what frame you use and why… You can learn a lot!
I for example noticed that I need a round or two in an active race so I gain what I would call a “tunnel vision”, a form of calmness and concentration. This short moment alone was worth so much and a new experience for me. In the end, 2 others and I had the same points so we did a K.O. race. I made a silly mistake that shouldn’t have happened, but then again, it can happen to anyone! I managed to claim the 3rd place but really, this is just a small part and a nice to have but nonetheless extremely rewarding.
This is one of my rounds. You clearly see my nervousness in the first two rounds out of four. After those, I calmed down and flew the course without further issue. In the Advanced category, I could skip the “jump” gate ( The one that looks like that: —(—|—(—, this is only for experts ). When I finished the race, my nervousness returned as you can see my thumb twitch on my landing.
All in all, amazing event! I will do it as often as I can, joining other people, race together, drink together and a healthy competition that is fun makes everything better!
Cheers to all pilots that made this day an amazing experience!
