First of all, Happy New Year :D!
January the 14th marked the date of the first “Beta” lessons of the newly founded school Dracer. The idea behind it is simple: at the beginning, the people who are on the verge of joining the hobby need a last push so they actually enter it. People with interest but no idea how to start or where to look. People that think the videos of all the pilots around the world look amazing and want to more know about them. In the long run, we want to have categories of expertise and also technical courses. I mean, what the hell is all that TXRXESCFCOSDLIPO stuff.
Now, with the first class of 30 completed, we can proudly announce that the result was amazing! People were laughing, happy at the end, asking questions, following up and most importantly, hooked. This has worked so much better than anticipated, but of course, we hit a few bumpers so I’ll try to write them down for future reference and other people to see. There is really is much to learn!
Having fun =D
I have received the ZTW Flash 30A Escs for testing purposes. Thank you Elektromodelle.ch for providing them!
They are installed on my new main rig, the ImpulseRC Helix – the rig I used to fly at the DroneWorlds World championship and the International Competition in Korea. Coming from KISS ESCs, I obviously had my doubts but after flying this quad for a while now, I can say that the ZTWs are super smooth and I d
on’t have to worry about anything!
Please note that this post is my personal opinion and experience. I’ve written this Blog before the Ibiza post because of the urgency.
The World Cup of FPV quad racing, wing racing and actually many other disciplines happened.
So, the swiss drone nationals just happened. It was an amazing three day event! Thank you Yann Oeffner so much for organizing this event – I had a heck of a time and I am sure that a lot of people enjoyed it just as much as I did. I met a lot of new people, talked about so many topics, shared information, new insights everywhere!
So, this super exciting event took place. For the first time, I went to an organized race.
Everyone was super nice, people were happy and we had a lot of stuff to exchange. Many ideas came out of this event and I have experienced a whole new facet of this new sport.
I apologize in advance for the wall of text! =)
Naturally, you want your racer as light as possible, as compact as possible and remove all “useless” weight. I use a Graupner radio which has SumD (Similar to sbus) and meets all my requirements. I like the higher build quality of a Graupner radio in comparison to the most common used in the Racing scene, the Frsky Taranis.
The Reciever for the Grauper radio I use is a GR-16. It’s one of the smaller ones, but I really wanted to make it use even less space. I searched online for help about removing the casing which was sadly fruitless so I decided to do an adventure on my own.
Here is my Build log of my current FPV Acro/Racing boat. Generally, I am very happy and impressed by the Alien Frame, coming from a ZMR250 v2 from FPVModel. I love my ZMR250 Frame, its very sturdy and was a good frame for my first flights I did in FPV. As a first step into FPV Racing, I still recommend a ZMR250 v2 frame as its very cheap and hard to break ( I actually wasn’t able to break it at all ).

Let’s get started!
Sorry for not posting for a long time! I had a very busy time, new job, new year, new hobby!
I started to get interested in flying a quad copter for some time now, and about 6 Months ago, I started to build my very first Acro/Race frame. It was the ZMR250v2 from FPVModel.com with Cobra 2204/2330kv motors and DYS 20A BLheli ESCs. I used a a SPF3Racing Flight controller, which I like though I soon had issues with the USB port not working properly.
Now, some month later, I bit the bullet and bought parts for my new frame, a frame to get serious: The ImpulseRC Alien 5″!
Soon, I will post a build log about how I built it and with pictures =) My first impression is that it is a very, very clean Frame and the parts bought for it are excellent! I hope to join the Swiss National Championship with this frame, even if I probably won’t win because there are far better pilots out there than I am.
What is Quad racing/acrobatics or FPV?
For those that don’t know what that hobby is, let my try to explain it here:
